Meet the Denturist
Robert Cain, LD
Robert’s family has a history in the dental laboratory and denture care field. In the summer of 1966 when just 11, Robert started working at his father’s dental lab. Working alongside his father, Robert learned the tried and true techniques and philosophies of dental technology. Robert attended college at Oregon State University, focusing on the study of biology and jewelry design. In 1977, he moved to Portland and worked at Dahlin Dental Laboratory, a large commercial lab.
Robert completed the Denturist Certification Program to acquire his denturist license in 1981. In the same year, he opened his first denture clinic in NE Portland. During those years, Robert also worked as the lead denturist for Dr. Naisbitt, who specialized in dental implants for fully edentulous patients. It was during this time that Robert gained his expert knowledge of implant supported dentures. During his tenure with Dr. Naisbitt from 1986-1991, Robert completed over 2,000 implant cases. It was also in 1991 that Robert took over operations of the Hillsboro Denture Center, a clinic that was founded in 1979. He continues to serve the Hillsboro community to this day, and expanded operations with a Seaside office in May of 2011 to meet the community needs in Oregon’s coastal towns.
As a premiere licensed denturist in Portland, Robert has continued his long and successful career in the field of denturism because he believes in denture care he provides patients. Not only does Robert passionately care about the needs of his patients, he also advocates for high educational standards and opportunities for current and future denturists. In 1981, Robert served as a co-founder, along with Dr. Thibert, in creating the International Congress of Denturism. This committee’s sole purpose is to promote the advancement of denture services education in the denturist field.
In 1984, the Portland area Study Club was organized by Robert and fellow cohorts in order to closely examine advanced denture techniques on a monthly basis. Both of these organizations are still active and thriving today. Additionally, Robert has independently sought after continuing educational courses and certifications that explore the latest technologies and discoveries in denture engineering. It has been his career priority to always strive for the best possible practices.
Robert and his wife are the proud parents of two teenage daughters, and the family resides in NE Portland with their black Labrador. Robert fancies himself as a genuine outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, bird hunting, and exploring the Oregon Coast.
Meet The Office Manager
Teresa, Robert’s youngest sibling, has worked as the Cain Denture Center’s office manager for nearly 25 years. Like Robert, she began working in their father’s dental lab as a junior high student. It was only natural to continue her career working for the family business as her older brother’s receptionist and office manager. Teresa admits; the best part about her job is getting to know the patients and their family members on a personal basis. She extends the warm comfort of the family business as she greets each patient as they walk in the door. Teresa’s greatest joy, are her three grown children. Additionally, she and her husband are devout Blazer fans! In her spare time Teresa enjoys knitting, walking the family Labrador, reading with her book clubs, and is a very active member of her local church.
Meet The Dental Lab Technician
Dental Lab Technician
Madeline Cain is Robert’s eldest daughter. In the tradition of the Cain family, Madeline began working in her father’s dental lab by the time she entered junior high school. She quickly discovered her inherent skill and interest for the art of dental lab technology and decided to follow her father’s profession as a denturist. Madeline graduated from Franklin High School and immediately attended Portland Community College to earn an associates degree in applied science of dental laboratory technology. Madeline is currently working as a dental technician for the Cain Denture Centers as she finishes the requisite classes to qualify for the denturist licensing exam. She is on track to become a licensed denturist by early 2019. Madeline shares her father’s enthusiasm for advocating for high educational standards and quality in the field of denturism. She has also been deeply influenced by her librarian mother as she spends the majority of her free time reading.
